I want to talk about the planners that I’ve used for a while and how I use them with my chronic pain process. I’m hoping that it may help others with chronic pain.
I have used a planner for about 2 year now. I used to use one in high school a lot but got out of it once I got out of school. I started using a planner when I ran my own business and needed to keep track of certain things. Over the last 2 years, I have found that the more I keep track of things, the easier it is for me to get through the day. Meaning, the more I accomplish and the less I forget. Now that I have my blog I can keep track of my post that i want to get out and I can plan certain days to do research on. I also keep track of my husband’s crazy schedule and anything pertaining to the kids. I have found that I feel better knowing what I need to accomplish just by looking at my planner and the prettier I make it, ie:stickers and washi tape, the more I’m likely to use it.
My first planner that I ordered and use the most is my Erin Condren Life Planner. I saw a friend use it to plan her wedding and then use one during her pregnancy. I thought that since I had my own business, I needed to keep track of what I need to do on certain days and what is going on with the kids and the husband on other days. My first ECLP wasn’t as decorated as I do now. I mainly used it for my to-do stuff and that was it. I started to notice that I wasn’t picking it up as much because it was a chore to write it all down. Once I found the “planner world” on Facebook , Instagram, and YouTube, and I found out how much I love to decorate my planner, I was using it a lot more. The more I decorated it, by using planner sticker kits found on different Etsy stores, the more I use it. My husband teases me about it and says ” you would be lost if your Erin Condren wasn’t with you at all times.”. And it true. With writing things down, I don’t feel so overwhelmed and I also don’t feel so bored. I know exactly what needs to be done and when it needs to be done by. I also use a Louis Vuitton MM planner agenda that I purchased pre-loved about 6 months ago. In this planner I keep my day-to-day things that need to be done but I also keep a list of when my medications need to be filled, my pain tracker and in the monthly section, when I have a doctor appointments. I can carry this agenda with me wherever I go since this is small enough to do that. That way I don’t have to worry about double booking myself, or anyone in the family. I also use this planner to organize my blog and helps me to stay organized with the post that I do every day. Now having a daily schedule of different topics, I really need to know where I am with my blog post or post might not make sense.
Another way I use my planners is for memory keeping. I have kept all the planners that I’ve used and I have written important dates in them and significant things that have happened to me or my family. I have added photos to the decorations like for my daughter’s first ever middle school dance. I took a picture of her, dressed up, so that I can always remember what happened on that day and just how beautiful she looked. I love having the scrapbook part just as much as I enjoy staying organized. It is sort of children’s memory book like what they where doing in school on what day too. I can keep just about anything in these books and stay organized. It takes care of m y anxiety for the most part. I’m not worrying about whether or not I’m missing any doctor appointment and I can look quickly to see if my prescription is due and when.
Using a planner in my daily has helped me become so much more organized and has taken away that anxiety of trying to stay on top of things. I now know exactly where every one in my family is at all times, which doctors appointment I need to be at and which medicines are due for a refill. This is the best way I have learned to handle a busy life and not overwhelm myself. There are so many companies that make planners that you don’t need to start off with an expensive one. Anyone can go to Target and they have them in the Dollar Spot or in their regular office supplies there are some. Other companies that make planners are Maywell, Kikki K, Filofax, Paper Source, Kate Spade, and Moleskin just to name a few. Here is an article in Vogue magazine naming 12 of their best planners/agendas for 2016. Of course these are a little more expensive one but worth looking into. http://www.vogue.com/13377010/best-2016-planners-holiday-gift-guide/
